| I need some advice. I'd like to buy a friend a nice bottle of port but don't know where to start. Not too pricey though? (this is where food an drink should come in handy) | |

| My old Cambridge College port was fantastic! Alas, not available outside of the buttery!
Better question - what's your budget? That might help define what sort of thing to go for.

| I only cook with port. I wouldn't dream of drinking it.
Sorry that was not very helpful was it.

| It's nice with a bit of cheese at Xmas. Only time I would ever drink it really.
Or as a cheeky vimto....now that is yummy! But any port will do for that, not the expensive vintage variety!

| In that case, head to good old M&S. Their standard "Vintage" is great, very quaffable and nicely presented.
Alternatively Dow's or Graham's Late Bottle Vintage (LBV) will be fine, or, if you can find it, Dow's First Reserve Estate.
All of those should be fairly easy to find without the need to treck far and wide. If you fancy something a bit different but still in price then 1991 Fonseca Guimaraens will really hit the spot!

| Mmm, me too, I once bought a cracking bottle of Vintage Port for a friend for a wedding present - I used a shop in Edinburgh, can't remember its name but I wanted a bottle from the year the couple were born.
They got divorced, I wonder what happened to that bottle....?

| not sure. V&C is Leith Walk, not too far, and in the right direction
If you have not been, go! It's yummy! I believe they have a separate cafe/restaurant somewhere in EH as well although not been to that.

| Read about V&C in the Scotland street books but never been. Don't actually venture east that often, nothing against the place, just don't have many friends still living through that way that we keep in touch with. Love South Queensferry though | |
