| Is it just me or does anyone else find it odd when members are temporarily banned from dooyoo, for whatever reason. If I were told I could not come onto dooyoo for a week or two weeks, it would make no difference to my life whatsoever. If I wrote a review that week I would just post it when I came back. So I really struggle to understand what it achieves. And temporary suspensions make me think of school, or perhaps professional football, but this is just an internet site. I don't see the point of temporarily banning someone from an internet site. Maybe somebody could explain it to me. | |

| I'm with you, Linda. If they banned them AND removed miles, that is a punishment. Simply suspending them, though, is pointless. It hasn't changed some folk's behaviour!

| I think for some people it really is a punishment. There are people who are making a lot of money on dooyoo and a week away from the site will impact on their finances so I can see the point there but generally for those who only post a couple of reviews every week I don't tihnk that it will make much difference. | |

| In fact I'd be quite happy to be suspended for a week or two, it might force me to participate in real-life for a bit - lol!
Taking away miles would be more effective if punishment is needed.....

| Temp bans can be effective, but only if backed up by something else... probably a reduction in miles based on the misdemeanour. Some recent temp bannings are laughable IMO. "Dooyoo Holidays"? Please.
But all-in-all the only way to stamp out abuse of the kind we've seen recently is to be stricter and harsher in punishment.
I'd also like to see perhaps a two-strike rule and if you're naughty enough to warrant a second temp ban within a time period (say, three months), then it's a perma-ban for you.
I don't think Dooyoo would ever be as harsh as I'd like them to be though.

| Fairly sure one of the people who was suspended said he'd had some miles docked - and I think it was quite a lot, like £20 worth.
I think that's quite a good policy. Some people actually seem to be trying to live off their dooyoo earnings (I wonder if they declare them to their local jobcentre?). That kind of thing would be a substantial penalty.
One recent returnee has hinted that there's a three-month probation kind of thing, so presumably if they re-offend they're gone for good. I do think it would be helpful to have this posted in the site rules, though.

| I imagine the miles have been docked for the alleged crime, so not due anyway, but on top of that there is no additional punishment. | |

But it's good to see there are other measures in place, like probation etc.

Well, if you're going to punish someone, might as well really hurt them... (This isn't actually aimed at the member who had miles docked, btw. I just wonder if it's possible.)

This is the one point of view I had come up with myself, but then I thought well if a person is posting so frequently on dooyoo anyway they probably would not mind doubling up review numbers once they are back as probably most of their money comes from the 50p from writing not the rating anyway. There probably is something in it though, for some people as you say. Docking miles would seem to be more effective if dooyoo want to make a point. I think setting out the disciplinary process (for want of a better phrase) might be a good idea.

| I just had another thought regarding temp bans.
Anyone trying to make a second income will, more than likely, be cross posting to Ciao. All a temp ban is going to do is force them to post their work on Ciao first, then cross-post back to Dooyoo once they're allowed back on to the site.
I don't know if there is a point to that, really, only that there should be further punishment to go alongside the banishment.

It hasn't changed some folk's behaviour! I don't think it's pointless, having served a suspension myself I think it had the desired effect, I will now not be goaded into petty arguments via the comments threads on people's reviews - although I must say some have tried since my return! P.S. Hi everyone )x

P.S. Hi everyone )x Welcome jo. :-) I think it depends on the reason for suspension. In your case by the sounds of it you were not intentionally abusing the site and were receptive to Dooyoo s feedback. I think Dooyoo have to treat everyone on a case by case basis.

| I agree that it should be case by case. There will always be some decisions that amaze us and, as we will be reminded "we don't have all the facts". I guess it's no different to real life where the drunk driver gets a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again and the poor sap who overstays their time in the Crematorium car park gets a fine... | |

Interesting to hear the point of view from somebody it happened to once, I guess it is a deterrent of sorts then. There was always something about temorary suspensions that made me think members are being treated like naughty children.

But not always, sadly. There are a few reasonably popular/high profile members who've been perma-banned at least twice and temp banned more times than I care to remember and is still allowed access to the site and still behaves in exactly the same way. I don't know what bothers me more... that these people continue to return or that Dooyoo lets them.

| I was banned from dooyoo, I believe for speed rating (yes yes I know!), although dooyoo never gave me an explanation (or even a warning it was going to happen) despite my emails to them. I only guessed that that was the reason when someone told me on Ciao it had happened to them (although they had been given an explanation). It took me a year to come back (hence why I'm marymoose rather than my usual marymoose99).
I did learn my lesson from being thrown out, and won't be doing that again! But It does miff me a bit that some people get suspended temporarily or at least get warnings from dooyoo where I got no communication. But hey, that was quite a while ago, so perhaps their policy changed.

| That's an issue I have with Dooyoo at the moment... the abuse handling, which I always rated as being much better than Ciao, has suffered recently. I think (one of the guides can put me right here) it's because of the huge influxes of members from sites like MSE, making personal contact (or contact at all) difficult due to the amount of people being temp-banned etc. | |

| I still trust the dooyoo team (as much as I trust anyone who I don't know) and still find that they do respond to abuse reports. I don't always like the way that they handle it and I don't like their policies on everything (like the PM thing) but at least communication is good and they do eventually take action. | |
